Do we still feel the Holy awe? Daily Devo with Andrew

For those of you who have been following my periscope videos know that we have been studying the book Joshua since the beginning of Feb…I thought being a new month, there is something common between us and the Israelite’s at this point.

They are going into the promised land, and back here many of us are trying to keep pace with the new year with lots of expectations and resolutions. So today we are in chapter 5:13-15, let’s dive in….Verse 13 13 Now when Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in his hand. Joshua went up to him and asked, “Are you for us or for our enemies?”

When Joshua is near his place of conquest ,’ Jericho’ which is also a challenge ahead of him, he looks up (Pause)     Where do we look when faced with big obstacles and challenges?   David reminds us in Psalm 121 I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
    where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
    the Maker of heaven and earth.

He also adds in Psalm 34:5 Those who look to him are radiant;
    their faces are never covered with shame.

Looking up to God gives us courage to confront whatever might be in front of us. Thankfully for Joshua it wasn’t an  enemy but if it was, he was ready to fight back.

Whenever we are in the presence of God , he has a word for us, but are we ready to listen?  Mary responded to the news of the Savior this way ,‘ And Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” Luke 1:38

Joshua responds the same way, in verse 14,“What message does my Lord have for his servant?”  the commander of the lord’s army, tells him in verse  15 , “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did so…

Have you noticed how real the presence of the lord is? when we acknowledge him, take time to digest that we are in the presence of the almighty God, when we take a minute or two or more and realize that God is Here! right now in our midst……It changes the way we look at our time, our one on one time with him….it ceases to be a routine we can’t wait to get out of, but a precious moment we want to relive every day of our lives.

That is my prayer today, that you will experience and feel the presence of God even as you read and study his word.
