As we continue in our study of Joshua, you can’t help but notice the close relationship Joshua has with the Lord, in the past chapter we see Joshua standing before the commander of the Lord’s army ,we ended on the note where he is asked to take his shoes off, while on holy ground.
In Joshua 6:2 we see the Lord speaking to Joshua and giving him instructions on how to to attack and conquer Jericho. You notice the tone here is not of a command but a conversational one, once again showing us the importance and benefit of being in the presence of the lord.
In Joshua 1:5 God promises Joshua that, As I was with Moses, so I will be with you, I will never leave you nor forsake you. We all remember what a great relationship Moses enjoyed and had with the lord, despite of his few errors which actually cost him a place and experience of the promised land.
As we study this book and journey of the Israelites, I cant help the loud voice and emphasis on the subject of relationship. Brothers and sisters, God wants and desires to have a relationship with us, a continual relationship not just based on what we can get or receive from him but one that is based on true love and devotion to him. In the book of Proverbs, he makes it even more clear, Proverbs 8:17 I love those who love me, and those who diligently seek me will find me. This verse is a proof that God desires our relationship and he just like us, desires those who honestly love him and will even go the extra mile to seek and pursue him……….he too promises to be found by those who seek for him.
Will you be the one? my prayer today is that you will be ‘that’ one whose heart, mind, and soul is crazy in love! with God and the things of God.
Back to our text as we finish, in Joshua 6:2 God himself reiterates to Joshua, ‘ see I have given you Jericho into your hand, with its king and the valiant warriors’ and also provides further instructions on how to execute the mission.
I pray that the lord will open our eyes to see the places he has already given us victory over and that we will be obedient and follow his instructions to fully possess his promises.
