THE GOD WHO FULFILLS….(Lessons from Samson)
The woman gave birth to a boy and named him Samson. He grew and the Lord blessed him, and the Spirit of the Lord began to stir him while he was in Mahaneh Dan, between Zorah and Eshtaol.
Judges 13:24-25 (NIV)
The Lord indeed fulfilled his promise, the baby was born and fast forward, the Lord indeed blessed him and as the scripture states, the Spirit of the Lord began to stir him in his community and surroundings.
Even before he started destroying the enemies of the Lord, God was already working in Samson’s life and those around him noticed. As a result we are reporting that even today!
When the Lord blesses, as his word says, he adds no sorrow to it,
‘The blessing of the LORD makes rich, and he adds no sorrow with it..’ Proverbs 10:22 ( ESV)
Our take away today is:
1.God indeed fulfills his promise on time, even in our lives God will fulfill his promises concerning us regardless of how long it may look…the baby takes 9 months! from personal experience that is not a quick process, you have to be patient.
2. Samson grew and the Lord blessed him, naturally he had to grow physically, and from what we know or imagine he was a strong man with muscle! that is one side to it though, for him to carry out his mission as a Nazirite, he had to be trained and separated for that specific office, the scripture says, ‘ He grew and the Lord blessed him!’
If we are to receive the Lord’s blessing, we need to grow in all aspects relating to our calling or goal.
3. The Spirit of the Lord began to stir him!, You see it is a process, one step at a time, wherever you are or what your calling is, there is a set order of things, in order to be promoted you have to earn the promotion, in order to be noticed you have to excel among your peers, you have to be exceptional!
God indeed fulfills his promises and I pray that as you wait patiently, you will grow into everything that God intends for you and his purposes.
Have a blessed great weekend, more from Samson next week!
Now see to it that you drink no wine or other fermented drink and that you do not eat anything unclean. You will become pregnant and have a son whose head is never to be touched by a razor because the boy is to be a Nazirite, dedicated to God from the womb. He will take the lead in delivering Israel from the hands of the Philistines
Not only will Samson be a miracle baby born to a barren couple in a difficult time spiritually, economically and politically but he will also be a chosen one before the Lord, a Nazirite!
When we are going through hard times in life, we will say, ‘ God if you can just bless me with anything that will bring a smile or comfort to my soul, just give me any man with two legs and a Job! Even if it’s a just a dollar increase to my hourly rate, I will take it Lord! I need a car it doesn’t have to be fancy as long as it will take me from point A to B, just do it Now!
But no! When God decides its time to bless, he will bring the best from his vault. He will give you more than what you even asked for, according to his riches in Glory.
Now as we wait for his blessing and promise to be realised, we need to prepare. Just like a farmer, we need to weed out the garden, we need to let go of certain things that might abort the blessing that God is about to release in our life.
For Samson’s mom, she wouldn’t touch wine or eat anything unclean, Once born, his hair would not be shaved, he was to be a special vessel unto the Lord to defeat his enemies.
Question: are you ready for what you are praying for, is your garden ready and cleared for the seed to be planted?
God is ready are you?
Again the Israelite’s did evil in the eyes of the Lord, so the Lord delivered them into the hands of the Philistines for forty years.
A certain man of Zorah, named Manoah, from the clan of the Danites, had a wife who was childless, unable to give birth. The angel of the Lord appeared to her and said, “You are barren and childless, but you are going to become pregnant and give birth to a son. Judges 13:1-3
In the midst of a daily life of fear, oppression and uncertainity, a couple cannot have a child. Maybe a child would bring a little joy into their already dark life without the past encounters with God and victory over their enemies, but not so.
One thing for sure is that God does not forget his own! He remembers and handpicks Manoah and his wife to produce a deliverer for his people Israel.
God does it in unique form, the news comes through a heavenly messenger, an angel from above! how cool is that?
There is no situation that God cannot overturn, however long it may take, however dark it may look, God always has his eyes on his own. As we learn from the life story of Samson, I pray God will visit you, your family, your situation in a very unique way that will change the course of your journey for the better and for his glory.
Have you ever misplaced your keys and just can’t find them, no matter how you look?
Well this morning I looked for over one hour and a half looking in the small area where I thought my car keys would be. My mind started wandering in places where the keys weren’t and I knew it too but I went anyway.
I couldn’t help but think about how many of us look everywhere else for love, satisfaction, comfort, self-esteem, success, Joy, Peace, name it…While what we are looking for, is right where we are.
As we start this week, before you start looking elsewhere, before you abandon your loved ones, before you give up on your dream, passion and goals, take a deeper look at the people God has placed around you, look at the resources he has given you. You might need to lift pillows, move furniture around, but it will be worth it! Precious things are not found on the surface, you have to dig deep and you will be suprised at how close you are to love, joy, peace, satisfaction and to all those things you have always prayed and hoped for.
I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
Philippians 4:6 (BSB)
It is very easy to complain, cry, whine, ask questions but often times harder to take all our worries, issues, anxieties to the Lord in Prayer. The moment we present our requests, challenges, obstacles to the Lord in prayer, we are saying, ‘God, here is my mountain, debt, hardship, relationship, whatever it is….By myself it will take along time and headache to fix it, but in you all things are possible, please have your way and do what you think is best for my life.
The Apostle Paul even goes further urging us to offer thanksgiving even before our prayers are sent up, Now that is Faith!
As we wrap up this week and prepare for a new one, let us take a step to surrender everything to God and by faith be thankful for all he is about to do in our lives, in his time and way.
P.S New daily devotional coming on the ‘Greater River App’ Download today on the App store and Google Play.
He said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” Mark 6:31 (NIV)
Still on the subject of rest, we last time looked at the importance of taking good care of ourselves and how it is important to rest from everything we think we need to be doing for everyone, just for a moment so we can serve them even better.
In today’s devotion we take a different look at the same verse, Jesus persuades his disciples to ‘come with him’ to a quiet place and get some rest! Here is the meat, He could have sent them to a hotel or lodging somewhere for them to get the physical rest they needed, but he knows the rest they need is only in him.
Think about how many people go for vacations to the most expensive resorts only to come back even more tired! Their purpose was to rest, refresh and be ready for the next season but the resort, beach, activities didn’t offer that ‘Rest’.
Even today we all need that special rest that only come through Jesus. By being in him we can receive the peace that surpasses all understanding ,’ And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7 (NIV) , Infact he calls out, “Come to me, all who are tired from carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest.
Matthew 11:28 (GWT)
You need rest today? Jesus is waiting to give it to you for free, right where you are.
Dear Lord I come to you, tired , confused, needy and in desperate need for rest, please fill me with your peace and allow me to experience the rest found in you and in you alone.
The apostles gathered around Jesus and reported to him all they had done and taught. Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”
I will be the first to plead guilty! Doing everything I can put my hands on, trying to beat deadlines, trying to change the world, name it!
The disciples are not any different, they are so excited about their achievements in the ministry and can’t wait to take on the next assignment! But Jesus knows they need some rest…In fact there is so much ministry waiting for them on the other side! While we are trying to do as much as we can, sometimes thinking this is the one moment to make it! We end up crashing even without noticing.
One of my leaders told us, ‘ you found ministry here , you will leave it here and it will continue without you!’ The same applies to just about everything we do, parenting, working out, studying, building relationships etc…while we are trying to better everybody else including our children and loved ones, we need to take care of ourselves so we can better serve, love and make the impact we so desire to.
One of the of the translations puts it this way, ‘ Jesus told them, Come with me to a quiet place and rest!
Today, please take some time and rest in Jesus.
